Renovation Details

A country cottage in the Congress Park neighborhood of Denver was dated and needed a refresh of the kitchen, living room, and entryway (with the primary focus being on the kitchen). This home is a more historic but clean-feeling home with lots of natural light. Our client had a great eclectic taste that fit perfectly with a more “clean cottage” feel. We drew a lot of the inspiration from the architecture of the home while using lots of natural elements, handmade and reclaimed pieces, and introducing prints in fabrics.

• While the home is quite large, it is historic. This means the kitchen was fairly small with not much room to expand (the staircase was behind the kitchen which prevented expansion). The kitchen had to stay in almost the same footprint, just with improved functionality and optimized storage.

• The dining space felt too formal for this young couple, so a built-in banquette was added next to the kitchen that could function as both “formal” (or semi-formal) dining as well as a well-lit breakfast nook. The kitchen was opened up to the dining room and an exterior window was added—which needed approval from the Denver Landmark Committee—to brighten up the previously-dark space. Most appliances were reused aside from the range and range hood.

• The entry floor tiles are reclaimed and perfectly imperfect.
